Have a look in /usr/ports/news. For non free, I have found DNEWS to be a
decent value.  I bought a copy a couple of years ago (back in the inn =
1.7.x
days, and it was far more reliable and scalable back then compared to =
innd.
No idea if innd has caught up, but the DNEWS of today (native 4.x port)
gives great performance on FreeBSD and manages a couple of nearly full
feeds (20Mb/s incoming) on about 300Gig of storage space for me.
