No one ever said it couldn't be done; it is evil, though, for several
reasons.  Don't do it.  Instead, do everyone a favor and pony up the
$30 for a second NIC, and encourage your roommate to do the same.

FreeBSD supports the kind of thing you're talking about (grep for
'alias' in ifconfig(8)).  Seriously, please fork over the $30.
