If memory serves, didn't Rob Snow say:

There was discussion back in August (or maybe July) about porting a CPU
load monitor from Linux to FreeBSD. Linux gets the load information from
the /proc filesystem. FreeBSD can get it from system variables. The bottom
line is that the two methods are not compatible and some rewriting is
necessary to get it to work.

Check the archives for more information (I think Mike Smith provided the
detailed answer) ...
