Coleman,

Sorry for dropping off the Earth for a moment there.  In order to make amends, 
I am giving you two dmesg's.  One from the installed NetBSD and one from the 
FreeBSD livefs.  Tell me if there is anything else I can get for you.  I 
don't know if this is helpful or not.  Possibly helpful command line output 
below:

dmesg | grep pcm 
No output.  This is not suprising for a livefs.

kldload snd_hda
kldload:  can't load snd_hda:  No such file or directory.  Not surprising, 
again.  But it was worth a try.
