Actually I got one step further; if I install with PAO2.2.8 and select
the second 'ex. Card-Bus' option in the install floppy (the bottom one)
i.e. use no IRQs. Installation goes like a dream.

However after the reboot I am still in much the same waters. Is there
any way of setting this 'no irq' state manually ?
