Well, hrrmm... in my case, I was just obeying the Java developers' orders,
and installed linux-jdk 1.3. We're running Resin (www.caucho.com) and JDK
1.3 is supposed to offer better performance and so forth. No empirical
evidence of that though... Java and good performace are two concepts that
don't seem to go together for me. ;-)

I had to make it use the "classic" VM though, which presumably shaves off
some performance. I could be wrong about this, but FreeBSD doesn't seem to
be the best platform currently to run Java on. Had a quick look through the
ports, and it seems that the available JITs only work with JDK 1.1.8?

As for features etc. well, you could sift through the huge amount of
documents at Sun's Java site...
