It seems that you misunderstand the purpose of subdisks.  That's what
they exist for, so that you can have multiple volumes in a single
drive.  You should only have one drive per spindle.

I can't recall what you're referring to, but if it's changing IDs and
reconfiguring, it's not going to help you fix it.

No, you're doing lots of things which aren't necessary, and coming to
conclusions which are incorrect.
