ah -- sorry ... it was rather late here at the time... :)

Also, I'm new to BSD, so wasn't sure what was relevant and what was
not...

ok -- I had done a make distclean, but it had failed after that also....
However, after manually removing said file, it works... Thanks so much.
I'm very, very appreiciative of your efforts :)

How would I go about finding out if that was the case?
