FWIW, this works really fine in KDE 3.0 now. If you start any program
which tries to access /dev/dsp with "artsdsp program"
e.g.

bash$ artsdsp xmms&

instead of

bash$ xmms&

xmms or any other sound program works perfectly together with artsd.
