portupgrade is not a base system utility, so you should not
expect everyone to use it.

I understand how ports work.  I also understand that Motif is
a big complicate (and in the past buggy) library.  Even though
the release notes indicate that API did not change, this doesn't
mean that an internal routine wasn't changed for the worst.
