The main reason I did it was to be able to show the next upcomming event
at the top of the page, so it is easy to get an overview of what is
happening in the near future.

That might be an idea, I will look into that - the headlines 'Upcoming
events:' and 'Past events:' already have id tags so it is possible to
link to them.

Well, since the upcomming event is at the top there is no need to scroll
for that; do you mean the past events?

Actually all the work is done now - the xsl stylesheet splits the events
itself based on the current date (as set in the Makefile generated
curdate.xml).

Hmm, which part to you mean?  Looks like the line your lines were
wrapped, so I'm not sure which part you are refering to.
