This actually works:

# chmod 600 blah

# ls -l
total 2
-rw-------  1 root  wheel  0 Dec  4 23:19 blah
-rw-r--r--  1 root  wheel  0 Dec  4 23:19 test2
-rw-r--r--  1 root  wheel  0 Dec  4 23:19 test3
