You need to create BSD disklabel slice along the lines of
gpart create -s BSD -n 8 mmmcsd0s1
then add the root partition
gpart add -t freebsd-ufs -s 10G mmcsd0s1a
then add the swap partition
gpart add -t freebsd-swap -s 2G mmcsd0s1b

Excuse the formatting, I'm interstate with vnc on an iPad mini which 
involves lots of scrolling.
