Believe I've heard the following solution for 2.0.5...
(hope that's what you're running)
if not, just get a 2.0.5 boot floppy,
as you won't be installing anything, it doesn't matter..

boot the install disk
don't repartion the disk,
just mark the found partitions with their correct
mountpoints (you only have to get / right)
do an istall of a 'custom' installation..
select 'games' or something to install (not bin)
(make sure you have NOT got the filesystems marked for newfs)
as you proceed into the install. the 'hollographic shell'
will appear in window 3 (or is that 4?)
move to that window, and zap your password :)
(or change /etc/ttys)
you may want to mount usr and var as well, but I don't know
if that is needed.. remember that the holographic shell
is chroot'd to the hard-disk, so you are effectively root
on the hard-disk at this point..
(oh yeah, if the install you chose fails,
then that's even better, so try an NFS install
from somewhere that doesn't exist :)
