If you turn up your logging a bit, you might get some hints.  Chat 
logging would be a good start :-)

You got this message after typing `term' ?  I don't think so.

Did you try typing ~. to get out of the `term' ?  Are you sure that 
your serial ports have been detected (look for `sio' lines in the 
output of `dmesg').  Are you sure that you've told ppp to look at the 
correct device ?

Take a look at http://www.FreeBSD.org/FAQ/userppp.html.  If you still 
have problems, we'll need some specific information (mentioned in the 
FAQ).
