It did by just blatting the xterm-specific escape codes whenever it
displayed color (without checking the TERM type.)

This wasn't necessarily the right thing to do if you'd logged onto
your machine from your Palm :-)

Now, it's using termcap to deduce whether or not the terminal
supports color, so you need to use the color-enabled xterm-color
definition.
