The commands look sane, (ok, I use cvs update -APd)

I am not sure about 3.4, but with newer versions of FreeBSD
there is a src/UPDATE that you should read carefully before
hitting make. E.g. the kernel config format or things like
device names (sd -> da) tend to change.

Otherwise I have no clue what is going on without the
error message - it just seems strange, as you just
jump from 3.3 to 3.4
