Hmm! I have m4 in the path at /usr/local/bin/m4 so I put in a symbolic
link to it from /usr/bin/m4 and tried again. That was what the problem
was. I saw the m4 issue but for some reason it did not register in my
brain because I knew it was in the path. I did not expect an unambiguous
call. There's is a wall outside I'm going to go knock down with my head.
