Thanks for the pointer, the whole drive gets recognised now.

The leaflet (that came with the hdd) calls
"Master with limit capacity in upper 32GB
  (capacity > 32 GB)"
"Pin Setting (32 GB Clip Pin Setting)".

Anyway, it works.
