Is "free" within your budget? :)

If you would like to use FreeBSD (and it's a fine choice) check out
http://www.freebsd.org/. For details on installing see
http://www.freebsd.org/handbook/install.html.

You can download FreeBSD for free from ftp.cdrom.com or any of its
mirrors, or (I recommend this) you can buy the CDs plus a book called _The
Complete FreeBSD_ from Walnut Creek for about $50. You can order it on
the web or call them up. I don't have the number handy but 1-800-555-1212
should turn it up easily enough.

Good luck, and have fun.
