You need a graphics driver that supports suspend. That's only going to be i915. Right now suspend / resume doesn't work in drm-next-4.7 for anything newer than Broadwell. Your two choices for Skylake are either to debug the issue in drm-next or add suspend / resume to sc or VT. I'm assuming that if the latter were easy someone would already have done it.
