Some of my /dev/r?sd* nodes were owned by root:wheel while the vast majority were owned by root:operator. The ones owned by root:wheel appeared in general to be for mounted devices, but then there were mounted devices that were root:operator too. The issue is that it is a bit difficult to dump as operator:operator when your disks are not readable by group operator. I was wondering if there was any reason why FreeBSD created/set those devices root:wheel as I have always been used to disk devices being root:operator. I have since chgrp'd them all to operator.
