Ok, here are the specs:

Micron Millenium p200 64m ram, 2Gb hd,
adaptec 2940 ultra pci scsi adapter,
number nine 128 pci video card w/8mb
ps2 mouse, keyboard
smc 10bt ethernet card
jax drive,
12x plextor scsi cdrom

X server:
XF86_I128
running afterstep 1.0 window manager

Since the original posting I have tried upgrading to 2.2.7 with a fresh
install off the net. The problem did not go away. Someone in the
archives suggested that switching to the console with ctrl-alt-F1 and the
alt-F3 back to X would be a temporary fix and that does work sometimes.
However, eventually, the keyboard does not respond at all.
I am getting an interesting message on the console. Actually, I can't
document the message in detail now because of the keyboard. I can telnet
to the machine. When I do a ps there is a login process with the
following line:
414	v2	S<s+	0:00.04 login -p \^]8;\^8];8\^\\^\
The error that I get on the console is a login process that is aborting
abnormally. Could something be piping my keyboard to that login process.
xdm is installed as suggested in the Lehey text with an entry in rc.local,
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/Xservers, and vt03 turned off in /etc/ttys.

On a related note, with the 2.2.7 release I'ld like to know what happened
to the xload utility. This program didn't install in my /usr/X11R6/bin
directory and I'ld like to have it. Any suggestions?

Thanks again for the help
