AFAIK, JetDirect can boot via bootp which sends it its IP address.  This
basically means that you may have to run bootpd somewhere.

Furthermore, JetDirect implements BSD lpd support for remote printing
(i.e. listens on the necessary ports.)  It should have no problem with
multiple requests.  Therefore, something will have to run lpd client part.

FreeBSD box should be able to do both, without problem.

You could also run Samba on FreeBSD to map lanman printers into lpr/lpd
scheme.

We have some HP w/JetDirect printers here, but I'd have to ask our admins
about their administration.

FWIW, it is very likely that JetDirect behaves as a lanman printer as well.
(as a matter of fact, your mail implies it, now that I have read it again.)
