One thing I will say about IMP is that while it's complicated to
configure, the combination of mySQL+PHP is rapidly becoming the
de-facto standard for scripted websites.  Most of the effort getting
IMP running is spent on the bottom end, on getting PHP and mySQL
properly set up.  Thus, you can leverage this effort elsewhere.

PS  I have explicit IMP setup instructions for FBSD 4.2 if anyone cares
