Thanks for all the responses. I 'm looking to run the php4 interpreter from
a crontab.  A cgi-bin version might do. I'm still reading and researching.
It appears the cgi version of php4 works for that purpose. I've just copied
the config.nice from a the mod_php4 build to supply most of the options I
wanted and tested a few small scripts. There's some problems with a couple
of libraries.
