sorry, but your fix was incomplete. the problem is not the ioctls, but
the mmap() call on -STABLE needs read/write access to the sound-device
(don't ask me why).

the problem doesn't occur on -CURRENT. see the thread on -multimedia
"mmap'ed sound buffer doesn't work in -stable, but works in -current"
