Really?  Why not?  If you ifconfig sl0 with some address parameters
and then slattach it, it works fine.  Same with ppp.  I'm not saying
it's the best of ideas to do so, but as far as I can tell the values
certainly "stick" and the device goes "up" just as soon as slattach or
ppp negotiates the connection successfully.
