Well, now that you brought it up, I will bring up the question I've been
wanting to ask but afraid to as it brought up flames last time somebody
mentioned it.

I use FreeBSD. I love FreeBSD. I live FreeBSD (ask my wife :). I want to
support FreeBSD. I keep my subscription to FreeBSD cd's just as a "token" of
my appreciation for the developers in the hopes that some of my $$$ gets fed
back to those who are paid professionally to develop it or for funds for
buying new hardware for paid/unpaid developers to dink with.

Jordan has several times said that "not much profit" are brought in from the
CD-ROM sales (quoting jkh "loosely" here). I haven't actually *used* my CDs
(except for pushing them onto people at work and giving them to my little girl
as a fascinating toy) since 3.0-RELEASE--after that with broadband access and
ISO images, it's pretty pointless. I just keep the subscription to "support"
FreeBSD.

I see that section 20.2.5 of the Handbook shows that contributions can be sent
to FreeBSD, Inc. or wired directly to a Bank of America account. I was
trudging to some project's website yesterday (open source software--can't
remember what it was) and they had opened up a Paypal account where donations
could be given to support the project. Couldn't we get this avenue setup as
well considering that there already is a Bank of America account for FreeBSD,
Inc.?

I personally would cancel my CD subscription and funnel the same $$$ dollars
around each release into this account if it was "easy" (i.e. Paypal ... ok,
ebay has made me lazy :).

Comments?

ps: Is there some sort of quarterly public disclosure about how much money
came into this account, where it went, what services or h/w was purchased with
it, etc. While whole-heartedly wanting to support FreeBSD and its paid/unpaid
developers, I wouldn't want to flush my money down some hole with no "tangible"
value (much like my Home Owner's Association check each quarter :) or idea of
where the $$$ went.
