Are there any guidelines on how to choose those values (as I fear that
bumping them to a unreasonable high value might affect the perfomance
negatively)?

Oh and BTW: what file descriptor limit does FreeBSD have (might well
turn out to be some kind of a problem if you have Apache logging to
domain_log for each domain instead of a central logfile like we do
it)?
