Re: Lynx Cursor-Anchor Problems

Date: Monday, Sept 25, 1995

*************************************************************************************

FreeBSD:

I am on a FreeBSD system , and am trying to get Lynx V 2.4.2 running

Lynx runs BUT:

  1) When Lynx displays a page,all the LINKS (Anchors?) are in REVERSE VIDEO.

     I would like to get it so only the LINK i'm on is HIGHLIGHTED (ie REVERSE VIDEO),
     the other links should be in BOLD and (the reverse video should "follow" the cursor).

  2) I had some problems earlier last week, getting lynx to run at all.
     the System administrator said he thought a library routine was missing.

     I was told by Craig Lavender at Ukansas to change the Makefile.

     To eliminate this error He Suggested:

       In the Makefile, find this line:

       SITE_LYDEFS = # -DDIRED_SUPPORT

       and replace it with

       SITE_LYDEFS = -D__NetBSD__ # -DDIRED_SUPPORT

     which I followed and it worked, Lynx compiled (freebsd option only, no ncurses)

  3) Today, I managed to locate and download the newest ncurses package version 1.9.4.

     I would like to install the ncurses and then try again to Make Lynx (With ncurses).

     and im hoping that will clear up the problem.

Q1. Does it sound like i need ncurses at all, or is it something else causing
    the Cursor/Highlight/Bold problem?

Q2. Are you aware of any problems with FreeBSD2.0, the ncurses Package and Lynx 2.4.2?

Q3. Any general advice on proceeding with ncurses (installation and re-make with lynx)?

Q4. Im using Vt100 terminal emulation on a dialup account.
    and I do a stty term vt100 command at the beginning of each session.

    Am I missing something here?

    I read somewhere that Lynx was Brain Dead as far as terminal recognition?

    So it must be either ncurses or the system right.....?

Thanks,

Vincent Roberts
