Subject: does anyone get ``good'' audio quality with VAT and SoundBlaster?

I spent a bit of time setting up a local FreeBSD machine this week to
try and tune into the IETF broadcasts, but have been very disappointed
with the audio quality. I expected a lot of ``popping'' which I've read
others complaining about with VAT and SoundBlaster, but there were many
long periods of time where audio was too garbled to distinguish. the
VAT broadcast must not have been using RTP because it could not display
loss%, but the accompanying video only report ~1-5% loss, so I don't think
that should be a problem. does anyone know if it's possible to get any
use out of the SoundBlaster with VAT and I just need to keep tweaking,
or should I just give up and see if I can swing a GUS board that everyone
else seems to be gravitating towards?

system vitals: Pentium 133MHz, endeavor motherboard with onboard SoundBlaster,
16MB memory, FreeBSD-2.1.0R, VoxWare Sound Driver:3.0-beta-950506,
VAT 4.0a6.

thanks for any info.
danny
