I would say that listening to telephone quality audio is just good
enough for technical presentations. You need more efficient coding of
more high quality input to be able to actually enjoy the broadcast.

A mono 44kHz 16 bit audio channel can be successfully transmitted in
about 60kbps stream. (MPEG audio layer-2) and a stereo in double of
that. I think content can be arranged if you provide the tools. MPEG
audio encode and decode tools are readily available nobody just have
implemented them in any of the MBone tools.
