Well, why do I need crd or card?  I thought that was only for PCMCIA
and PPCARD stuff.

That's the one.  It wasn't getting updated because it still had my
ISDN stuff in it.  But this doesn't explain why I suddenly need
PCCARD in a desktop machine.
