In localhost.freebsd.questions you write: >I have been offered a CD-R and SCSI card for a very cheap price and I was >wondering what the 1505 is like, and if FBSD provides good support for >it. I have never used SCSI before, but it seems like a good option >especially since the setup for devices on the bus is so much simpler. >I'd love to hear from anyone if you have any comments on this card. In addition, this card is an ISA card, and a slow one, at that. I am pretty sure that this card's driver is not maintained under FreeBSD. Code exists, but support for some things isn't there, and no one's taking suggestions on what people need. I ran into this when I was trying to get my scanner to work with a 1502. It might work for whatever you are using it for (e.g. the CD-R), but if it doesn't, your only recourse may be to fix the driver yourself. If I were offered this deal, I would probably value the card at somewhere around US$5 or less in trying to decide if the CD-R were a good price. However, I am pessimistic about the value of hardware when evaluating purchases. All is not lost, however. You can find NCR 810 based cards for US$50, which are well supported, PCI, and fast. I almost bought one, but I got a deal on a Buslogic card closer to home. -- bryan k ogawa <bkogawa@primenet.com> http://www.primenet.com/~bkogawa/
