The ability to mount SMB shares is a Linux thing, and I'm note aware of any other Unix flavours which can do at the kernel level OOTB. There exists a package known as rumba, which allows you to mount SMB shares in userland. There's a FreeBSD port for it, but be aware that this is pre-beta code, and I've found it to be unstable.
