According to the squid FAQ, it would be good to increase the size (not the number) of the mbuf buffers when running squid. See also http://squid.nlanr.net/Squid/FAQ/FAQ-14.html#ss14.2 There they do it by adding options MSIZE="256" to the kernel config file. Since I found various references to MSIZE in userland, wouldn't it be better to tweak /usr/include/machine/param.h and build world and kernel? Or is it unadvisable to do that at all?
