Hi Guys. I felt really let down recently when I purchased my WinTV card and tried it out with my #9 Imagine 128 Series II. As the XFree86 I128 server (version 3.3.3.1) doesn't support the Direct Video feature of DGA, 320x240 was kind of flickery, and 640x480 mode ended up queuing up so many X events that the entire machine very quickly became totally unusable (dual PPro 233Mhz, 3.x) and, sometimes, even switching back to the smaller mode or bouncing the X server was impossible.. I figured out that it was the lack of Direct Video support that was the problem, but getting tech info on the card seemed to be a hassle (and I've never hacked an X server before, either). I like the I128 card a lot (and paid $$ for it, too), and it looked like another card to run 1600x1200 @ 85Hz wasn't gonna be cheap... Then someone mentioned VMware to me in another context, and I took a look at their website (www.vmware.com). I nearly fell off my chair when I noticed that they provide patches to XFree86 3.3.3.1 to provide DGA/Direct Video support for the following cards/servers: SVGA, Mach64, S3Virge, 3DLabs, i128. I believe that at least some of these already have Direct Video, but I know that the I128 server didn't - until now!! I found that the Direct Video image was offset to the right by ~= 448 pixels at all resolutions (at least in 16 bit mode) but this was easily patched thanks to Randall's answers to similar problems with the Matrox cards (from the archives). The difference in the quality of the image with Direct Video is tremendous - I just wanted to thank everyone involved with the bt848 driver and fxtv - it totally rocks!!!
