Hi.

  I'm running 3.3-STABLE (Last world made Nov 6) on a Toshiba Satellite
2595XDVD.  Mostly working; exceptions are the "built-in modem" (LoseModem;
the salesman at CompUSA in Walnut Creek, CA, USA, lied to me in response to
a direct question; I have a witness!) and the sound. Can't do anything
about the LoseModem, but I'm hoping someone can help me with the sound.

  The machine has an ESS ES1978 (Maestro-2) chip in it. Nothing I've tried
has worked. OSS says that I'm sharing an interrupt (on the PCI, IRQ 11),
throws up it's hands and quits. PCM won't work; the "card" is PCI, not ISA.
I've tried init'ing the thing as a Soundblaster, which the manuals claim
it's "compatible" with; no go.

  Anybody have any suggestions? The so-called BIOS on this thing won't let
you change PCI IRQ's; apparently they're tying the entire bus to IRQ 11.

  Oh, yeah. pciconf -l gives me about 25 bytes of garbage instead of "none",
as it's supposed to, for the name of this device. Haven't traced it
completely, yet. Here's the pciconf -l for it, less the garb; don't want
to scramble anyone's screen or mailer:

@pci0:10:0: class=0x078000 card=0x00011179 chip=0x07011179 rev=0x23 hdr=0x00
@pci0:12:0: class=0x040100 card=0x00011179 chip=0x1978125d rev=0x10 hdr=0x00

This look familiar to anyone?

Thanks!
