Logins aren't delt with by inetd at all, unless you mean rejected
connections.

Did I misunderstand you - I thought you were seeing messages logged,
but with the hostname instead of the IP address? (Note, for stream
wait services it is not possible for inetd to determine the connecting
address so it can't be logged).
