I strongly recommend "A Guide to LaTeX2e - Document Preparation for
Beginners and Advanced Users" by Helmut Kopka and Patrick W. Daly.
It's not an online document, but it's a very good learning tool and
reference resource.  ISBN 0-201-42777-X.
