So far, I like -experimental best. However, I'd actually
vote for keeping it -current. It's explained in the FAQ
and in the Handbook, so if anyone needs a clue, we can drag
his nose into that direction.

It seems that there is some confusion about the names of
branches, release tags and actual system names (those taken
from newvers.sh). These three are all different things,
and this should be very carefully explained in the
documentation -- in particular for those who are not
familiar with CVS.

Oh by the way, there's an error in the FAQ. In section
7.37 it says: ``Once the release, 4.1-RELEASE in this
example, has been made, the branch will be renamed to
4.1-STABLE'' That's nonsense, of course. There is no
renaming of branches. The name of the branch is 4-stable
(a.k.a. RELENG_4), both before and after the release.
The release is just a point in time on the ongoing
4-stable branch.

Maybe it would reduce confusion somewhat if people would
just stop saying ``4.1-stable'' etc. Those simply do not
exist.

I would also vote for ``uname -r'' saying ``4-STABLE'' and
appending the date (similar to the snapshot naming), like
``4-STABLE-20010509''. This is much more useful than
``4.3-STABLE'', IMO.

Just my 2 Euro cents ...

Regards
   Oliver
