Is your CD-DVD ROM in DMA mode ?

# atacontrol mode 0
  -or-
# atacontrol mode 1

from my system:

daggar># atacontrol mode 1
Master = WDMA2 
Slave  = ???

With my CD-DVD ROM as master on 2nd onboard ata controller.
