If that's the case, there are numerous ports out there that use su effectively to start services under a specific UID. In which case, I'm thinking the only reason you want daemonctl is so that non-root users can start and stop the services it starts. Is that correct? If so, then I recommend we just use rc.d scripts, providing daemonctl as an optional way to start services as a non-root user. Ciao, Sheldon.
