Lots of people get away with it just fine, but every now and then someone fries a keyboard controller hot-plugging PS/2 peripherals. If they're USB, fine...PS/2, not so fine. Lots of people get away with it, but hot-swap/plug is not part of the PS/2 spec...So don't complain if something breaks.
