Build a kernel with 'device atapicam' or load the atapicam kernel
module. (I have never tried the module, but it is there.) After this,
you will have a device cdX for every acdX. It is a SCSI device and will
work with all of the SCSI CD and DVD ports like cdrtools (cdrecord) and
dvd+rw-tools. camcontrol(8) will also work on the cd devices.

Note that scbus and cam must also be in the kernel if you build the
kernel with atapicam.
