This was be immensely helpful for whomever ends up having time to look into it. I went and started looking at OpenNMS a couple of weeks ago and frankly didn't have enough time to walk through all of the build and set up steps. A wiki or something that boils it all down would be most helpful. Also, I agree that the place to look to fix this is in the openjdk8 port.
