I'm running FreeBSD v.2.2.2, and as I'm new to both UNIX and FreeBSD, I've been using your handbook quite a bit. However, I have noticed that there are quite a few differences between what the handbook says my system has and what is actually there. I know that with many release versions it is difficult to coordinate everything, but as I'm running the generic kernel of a fairly widespread version, I was surprised. Some examples include the fact that I have no sysconfig file anywhere, let alone in /etc. I also have no /etc/resolv.conf, both of which the handbook seems to assume I have. If I am expected to create those files, I would appreciate something that tells me that. There are also differences, rather large ones, between what the handbook says (http://www.freebsd.org/handbook/handbook179.html) and what the tutorial says (http://www.freebsd.org/tutorials/ppp/ppp19.html) the contents of /etc/ppp/ppp.conf are. I'm sure everything seems clear to you, but with absolutely no experience with the system all, the various and sometimes contradictory messages confuse me in what I presume is a very simple exercise - namely to connect to the internet through my ISP, Earthlink. I appreciate what you have done in creating this whole system, and I am amazed that it is free, but I hope in the future explanations could be a bit clearer for people like me. Thanks- SpectreTouch@earthlink.net http://home.earthlink.net/~spectretouch
