The make -i worked for me. I did a make world without the -i afterwards
and it went through clean.

Unfortunately it hasn't solved any of my problems with Xfree86 4.0
(freezing the machine if Alt-F<n> out of X and then back in; remapping
the Enter to to ScrLock if I terminate X), or with my Synaptics
touchpad. I'm feeling brave enough to tackle writing a driver for the
latter myself (or hacking psm), but don't know enough about X/syscons
interaction to attempt doing mcuh about the X problems.
