I tried both 

cp /usr/X11R6/etc/gdm/factory-gdm.conf to /usr/X11R6/etc/gdm.conf
cp /usr/X11R6/etc/gdm/factory-gdm.conf to /usr/X11R6/etc/gdm/gdm.conf

And neither worked.  Could this be related to the gdm2 install problem
that you corrected a few days ago?  I didn't reinstall gdm2 after your
commit (I just stopped usig gdm), but I will try this tonight or this
weekend.
